Sam Heath Moffett is Brighton campaigner, fundraiser activist, and resident DJ for the English Disco Lovers Community Group. He has been a professional DJ for 35 years, starting out on the London scene before the Acid House revolution. His first club night at 16 was at the famous Beat Route club on Greek Street in London. From contacts there he went on to residencies on the post-punk proto-disco scene at clubs such as Limelight and the Wag Club in London, moving onto the Acid House M25 circuit, club residencies and parties worldwide.
The English Disco Lovers is the brainchild of London-based art student Alex Jones. The original brief was to Google bomb the search term 'EDL' to get the Disco Lovers webpage to number one in the rankings. Since then, the group has amassed over 75 thousand followers on social media, and now gets involved in race and fairness dialogue, raises money for worthy causes through disco events, and promotes fairness and inclusivity through talks, exhibitions and collaborations throughout the country. Their simple message, 'Don't Hate, Gyrate' celebrates diversity and strengthens communities. They have been nominated for a national diversity award, and their music video went viral, attracting support from Nile Rodgers: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sYPpbfs5Vn4
Sam has created, curated and promoted parties for the English Disco Lovers in Brighton and London, selling out all events for 3 years, including the superb Spiegeltent parties for the Brighton Festival, Brighton Pride, as well as their now infamous Beach Parties; the July '16 party had to be re scheduled after going viral, attracting 12,000 replies in 36 hours. These parties have raised funds for refugee causes, sister group the Hummingbird Project, LGBT charities, Somerset Levels Flood victims, and the Sussex Beacon Charity among many many others. (cont.)
The Disco Lovers have a magazine radio show on Brighton's Community station Radio Reverb, presented by Sam, interviewing guests such as Orbital's Paul Hartnoll, and deaf ambassador Jo Milne:
